Testimonials

Current student, Aliza Goldsmith

"My time here so far has been absolutely remarkable. I can't imagine a better place in the world to study Political Science, since we are constantly debating global politics both inside and outside the classroom. I find that my experiences at the "shuk" (open-air market), or on the street, constantly challenge me and enhance my experience. However, the best part of this program, without question, is studying with such a diverse group of people. I went to a very homogenous liberal arts school in the states, and could never have imagined a classroom with people representing so many countries, such broad political beliefs and varied backgrounds. We have thoughtful debates and encourage each other to think in new ways. In addition, the small classes and easy access to professors has been really helpful throughout the program. To anyone who is looking to explore an amazing city, meet lifelong friends and challenge preconceived notions, I strongly recommend getting your MA through this program."

  • The political communication of mandate elections
Elections are the major apparatus of democracy. Appropriately, elections are a prime topic
of research for political scientists and political communication scholars, with most studies
focusing on electoral behavior and election campaigns. Thus, we know much about how
the vote is structured and what enters voters’ calculus, how election campaigns are
devised, and how they affect voters. Read more here.

  • What were the elections about
Elections are a prime topic of research for political scientists, given that they are the
major apparatus of democracy. However the bulk of the studies focus on voting
behavior and election campaigns. Thus, we know much about how the vote is
structured and what enters voters’ calculus, how election campaigns are devised and
how they affect voters. We know much less about what the elections mean, how the
meaning of election outcomes is constructed, whether the public sees them in the
same way as the political community, what affects election interpretations, what
produces mandate election interpretations, and what impact the ‘conventional wisdom’
about the election has on politics.. Read more here.

The counter-hegemonic role of civil society: Palestinian-Arab NGOs in Israel

This paper deals with the causes and impact of the rise in the number of Palestinian–Arab
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Israel in the last two decades. It provides a
multi-level model that combines economic, political and cultural factors to explain the
shifts in Palestinian-Arab political mobilization in Israel and as a result to the rise of a
complex network of Arab NGOs. Read more here.

Democratizing state-religion relations: a comparative study of Turkey, Egypt and Israel

This article examines the complex relationship between state, religion and
democratization in Turkey, Egypt and Israel. It demonstrates that binary and
static models of separation and integration between state and religion are not
sufficient to understanding the complex relationship between them and
chances of democratization. Read more here.

Media culture as counter-hegemonic strategy: the communicative action of the Arab minority in Israel
