Alon Liel served for almost 30 years in the Israeli Foreign Service in different positions, among them: Ambassador to South Africa, Consul General in the south-east of the USA and Charge D'affairs (head of mission) in Turkey. He also served as Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Planning (1994-1997) and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2001). Liel holds a Ph.D in International Relations from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
